We’ve Added New Eco-Dyed Tees, Shoes & Hats Along With Salves and Wildcrafted Jewelry To Our Store – Check It Out!

We’ve been busy creating amazing new products for ReWild Co. over the last several weeks. If you have been following our blog you know we have been working with natural dyes – indigo and black walnut (hulls) harvested from our own farm here in the Smoky Mountains. You can watch my how to video here: https://youtu.be/qF5960kYgpU

It is such an amazing process. Indigo is Native to India. This beautiful indigo natural plant dye was used historically by ancestors primarily in India, Egypt, and East Asia. However in 1897 synthetic indigo was launched around the world to keep up with demands of the apparel industry, since then production of natural indigo has significantly declined.

These shirts are dyed with natural plant-derived indigo fitting of our mission of rewilding back to nature. I hope you enjoy the vibrant hues on all of your adventures.

The Black Walnut tree is a rich, highly-prized hardwood that had been exported in large quantities as early as 1610 from Virginia resulting in high cost and limited available quantity. During the Civil War Southerners would use the hulls of Black Walnuts to dye clothing to send to their family members on the front lines; they were also utilized for war efforts in WWI and WWII. In 1930 efforts to replenish these trees began but were not very successful causing the U.S. Forest Service to approach private landowners to grow walnut plantations. Many of these trees were poached from private land.

This Black Walnut dye was made from the fallen hulls of our Black Walnut tree that resides on our farm. The beautiful brown shades never fade due to the high concentrations of tannins that Black Walnut contains.
